When 22 undergraduate women founded Delta Sigma Theta on the campus of Howard University on January 13, 1913, their intent was to establish a public service organization. The vision of 22 dynamic young women has united hundreds of thousands of women across the globe. Our shared mission is to confront the challenges facing African Americans, women, and girls and to build stronger, healthier families and communities. Detroit Deltas conduct a wide range of programs to address education, health, international development, and the strengthening of the African American family. This includes working in metro Detroit homeless shelters; mentoring youth; the construction and operation of Delta Manor, a residential facility for seniors; financial literacy and home buying seminars; healthy living events; political awareness forums; and more. Five Point Programmatic Thrust The chapter’s programs are based upon the organization's Five Point Programmatic Thrust: 1. Economic Development |
